“A class divided”

What is racism? Who is racist? What do we know about a racist behavior? Have we ever behaviored in a racist way? How easily somebody can become a racist? How easily can somebody understand the ugly truth?

One shocking experiment which was conducted in a school in Iowa in 1968 gives answers about all the above questions. It is really easy to make a kid accept racism but similarly it is really easy to learn to a kid how to love. All a kid needs is a real teacher who will say clearly the truth, with courage and determination.

  1. Assuming you wanted an answer, here are mine.
What is racism? When you hate a specific group of people because they simple are something different from you. Disliking a person who happens to be black or gay or Italian is NOT racism, hating them because of those things, would be.
Who is racist? Depends on how you define it. To the point where they legitimately hate everyone in the group and/or would hurt people in said group? Not very many. Has preconceived misconceptions about a certain group? Pretty much everyone.
What do we know about a racist behavior? Pretty cut and dry, see answer Number 1
Have we ever behaviored in a racist way? See question 2, but I’m going with probably and if we haven’t most have thought of behaving in a racist way.
How easily somebody can become a racist? Easily. All it takes is adding fuel to a misconception.
How easily can somebody understand the ugly truth? Varies. Misconceptions are easy to clear up or harmless questions, but if progressed to full blown racism, not very easy to understand.

    • My questions were kind of rhetorical but thank you for your spontaneous answers, carlylynn. You have very interesting thoughts! 🙂 I agree with most of them. The only thing I want to add is that racists are unfortunately many and during periods like the current we live are becoming more and more. Social and economical crisis always “help” racism to explode and racists feel more free to spread their opinions as desperate people are ready to listen any irrational thing which seems to be the solution. Nowadays, racism is getting bigger and bigger that is why documentaries like the above should be seen.
